Its district-based mosque directory is the appropriate starting point for locating an institution; this page does not reproduce changing demographic figures or reduce Muslim communities to one ancestry story.

Finding a mosque

The official directory lists registered mosques across districts. A listing does not establish sightseeing access, prayer language, facilities or opening times. Contact the mosque or responsible trustees directly for current information.

Shared sacred traditions

Official tourism material records an Islamic interpretation associated with Sri Pada and Muslim participation at Kataragama. Present these as tradition-specific understandings, not universal doctrine.

Visiting

Plan with named mosques and local guidance

Sri Lanka's Muslim communities and mosques are diverse. Use the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs' registered-mosque information as a starting point, then confirm visitor access with the named institution. Registration does not mean every area is open to tourists at every time.

Respect prayer and privacy

Dress according to mosque guidance, remove footwear where instructed, keep away from prayer lines and ask before photographing people or interiors. Access may differ by space, prayer time, gender arrangements, event or security requirement.

Keep practical claims current

Prayer times, Ramadan dates, halal certification and opening arrangements change. Verify them through responsible institutions rather than relying on an undated travel article.
